The number of doctoral degrees within the Laredo Independent School District continues to grow, strengthening the district’s commitment to advancing education and leadership. Contributing to this momentum, Santo Niño Elementary School’s Dr. Valeria Christina Valdez completed her Doctoral Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University.

Currently a third-grade teacher with five years of service, Dr. Valdez is passionate about creating engaging, student-centered learning experiences and integrating technology into her instruction. Dr. Valdez is also Google Level 1 Certified, reflecting her dedication to utilizing digital tools to enhance teaching and learning. She holds multiple certifications including Core Subjects with STR (EC-6), Bilingual Education Supplemental-Spanish (EC-6), and Gifted & Talented certified. Beyond the classroom, she proudly serves as co-sponsor for both the Robotics program and the National Elementary Honor Society at her campus, encouraging students to excel academically and develop leadership skills.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M International University. These academic experiences laid the groundwork for her doctoral studies, which strengthened her focus on instructional leadership and innovation.

In 2024, Dr. Valdez was selected as Santo Niño Elementary’s School Bell Award nominee and was also named Teacher of the Year in the Laredo Morning Times Readers’ Choice Awards. “I am deeply grateful to my students. Their lasting impact continually inspires me to grow and strive to be the best educator I can be,” she said.

She further credited her success to her support system, stating that “it was possible through the unwavering support of my husband, Cesar, family, colleagues, and friends, whose encouragement has been a constant source of motivation. Above all, I give glory to God for guiding my path and sustaining me every step of the way.”

Dr. Valdez’s achievement underscores her dedication to advancing her profession while continuing to guide and inspire students at Santo Niño Elementary School.
