LAREDO, Texas — Santo Niño Elementary School is kicking off a month full of excitement, learning, and school pride with a dynamic October dress-up calendar. Designed to raise awareness for meaningful causes while encouraging daily student participation, the school-wide initiative runs throughout the month alongside the campus's Halloween Attendance Challenge.

Each week in October highlights a unique educational theme:

  • Dyslexia Awareness Week (Oct. 5–9): Students will show support for different learning styles by wearing favorite hats, crazy socks, red clothing, and sports jerseys.

  • Down Syndrome Awareness Week (Oct. 13–16): Following a staff development day on Monday, Oct. 12, the campus will celebrate with chef outfits, blue and yellow attire, ties, and superhero costumes.

  • Safety & Unity Week (Oct. 19–23): Hornet spirit will shine with yellow-and-black days for bus safety, pink apparel for breast cancer awareness, orange shirts for Unity Day, and western pink attire.

  • Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 26–30): To promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles, students can look forward to wearing red, crazy hair and socks, boots and western wear, superhero capes, and Halloween costumes to wrap up the month.

School administrators invite all Santo Niño Hornets and their families to take part in the daily themes to promote school community engagement, support vital awareness movements, and maintain strong daily attendance all month long.
